What you type never leaves your device.
That has always been true and still is. One thing has changed, and this page says so plainly: the website and the Android app now count visits using Google Analytics. The iPhone and iPad app does not, and collects nothing at all.
Changed on 22 September 2026. Until this date nothing whatever was collected, anywhere. The earlier version of this page said so, and this notice exists because that page promised it would tell you before the change shipped.
What you type
Unchanged, and the most important thing here. When you name what is troubling you, the matching happens entirely on your own device. The words never leave it. They are not sent anywhere, not logged, and not kept once you close the app. The question you ask is not something we can see, now or ever.
What is stored on your device
The passages you choose to keep, saved in your browser's own storage so they are still there when you return. They stay on that device, are never transmitted, and are deleted the moment you clear the app's data or remove the app. Nobody else can read them — not us, not anyone.
What Google Analytics sees
On the website and in the Android app only. It records that a visit happened and something about the circumstances:
- which sections of the page were opened, and how long the visit lasted;
- an approximate location — country, and usually city — worked out from your IP address, which Google uses for that purpose and does not store;
- the kind of device, screen size, browser and operating system;
- where you arrived from, if you followed a link or an advertisement;
- a randomly generated number, kept in a cookie on your device, which lets a second visit be recognised as the same browser as the first. It is not a name, and is not linked to any account.
It does not see what you typed, which passages you were shown, or which passages you kept. Those never reach the network.
If you would rather not be counted
If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, that is honoured: the analytics script is not loaded at all, and no request is made to Google. Most browsers have one or the other in their privacy settings, and some send it by default. Nothing further is required of you.
Beyond that, any of these works:
- use the iPhone or iPad app, which has no analytics of any kind;
- install Google's own opt-out add-on in your browser;
- block the script, or refuse cookies for this site, in your browser's settings or with any content blocker. Everything on the page keeps working — nothing here depends on being measured.
Permissions
The app asks for none. No location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone, no files, no notifications.
The network
The app downloads itself once — the page, the eight scriptures, the typefaces — and then works with no connection at all, analytics included: nothing is measured while you are offline. Your device's IP address is seen by the hosting provider (Netlify) in its ordinary server logs, as with any website. Apart from Google Analytics there is nothing from any third party: no other scripts, no pixels, no embeds, and the typefaces are served from this site rather than from anyone else.
Advertising
Nothing here is used to target advertising at you, and no advertising is shown in the app or on this site. The two Google Analytics settings that would allow it — Google Signals and ad personalisation — are both switched off. We do advertise the app on Google Play; Google reports to us how many people installed it, as a count, never as a list of people.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages. The analytics described above are not used to build profiles of anyone, children included, and no personal information is asked for at any point.
Changes
If any of this stops being true, this page will say so before the change ships, and will keep a note of what changed and when — as it does above.
